8 days and counting Why Italy?

I think it was in March 2016 when my sister Patty and I first discussed the idea of going to Italy.  But it may have been previous to that when we discussed traveling together.  Anyway, it's become a reality.  But why Italy?

Well, our last name is Lombardi!

Our mother has been very interested in genealogy for the last several years and she had kept in touch with some of my dad's cousins who traveled to Italy, the same area we are going to , and sent her a DVD slide show of their trip and some family genealogy.  I was fascinated by it.

While googling the area, Calabria, Italy, I found a Web site of a travel agent who specializes in helping people find their ancestors from that part of Italy.  I guess a lot of people emigrated from there.

My dad was Don Lombardi.  His father was Frank P. Lombardi.  Frank's mother was Rosaria (Rosina, Rose) Reda Lombardi.  Rosaria had a sister, Carolina Reda who married Dominic Caputo.  It is the Reda sisters who came from Calabria.  Actually we don't know much about the heritage  of Francisco Lombardi, Rosina's husband.  So it's the sisters off to see the homeland of the sisters!
