Let’s continue with the itinerary. Monday, May 20 is our day to relax, get used to time change, see the beaches, see the town, etc.
Here are some things that sound fun to see and do:
La Chiesetta (church) di Piedigrotta (At the foot of the grotto)
According to legend, a group of sailors were caught in a storm off the coast of Pizzo. Fearing death, the captain gathered the crew and they prayed, promising to build a church in exchange for landing safely. They did land safely and kept their promise, building a altar inside a nearby cave. Over the years local artists and sculptors have added to the display.

Murat Castle
Very close to our hotel is a castle that was named for Napoleon Bonaparte’s brother-in-law. I know nothing about Napoleon, so may have to do some reading up.
Much more fun is the fact that in the town square are many shops that sell Pizzo’s most famous frozen treat: Tartufo di Pizzo. It is a ball of homemade hazelnut and chocolate gelato, filled with a solid chocolate core and dusted with cocoa powder.

We plan to visit Bar Ercole which claims to be one of the first to serve this dessert!
In the evening in the square the people participate in their traditional passeggiata (a leisurely walk or stroll).

And of course there are restaurants galore. Seafood is abundant. Monday will be a day of discovery.
